Throwback Thursdays circa 1999: The Very First Mix I Ever Recorded

This weekend I found a box of old minidiscs in a drawer and at that very moment remembered that I actually still have a minidisc recorder. So I took the whole shebang and DIGITIZED THAT ISH! I’ll be posting a couple of them, so here’s the first (har har) aptly named “Alpha.”

I also took the liberty of cleaning up the audio a bit: smoothed out recording glitches, dynamically leveled it, cut out the digital hiccups from the aging media… you know, the usual. I also slowed it WAAAAAY the shit down, cause… srsly, why did we play so fast back then?? It was recorded at 136bpm.

Whoa.

I knocked it down to a respectable 125-ish, mostly because I actually want to listen to it and that breakneck speed was making my neurons corrode. This was the mix that through a random turn of events got played on Frankfurt’s Radio X, which led to my booking for one of the legendary train car open-air parties a mere year into my DJ career. It also led to an interview on said Radio X, which I also just reclaimed the minidisc recording of 🙂
